Class #1 A New Way to Applique
Class #2 Miniature Stack & Whack
Teacher: Kandi Paige Gallup Teacher: Pat Minks

Kandi fell into designing quilts as a fluke. She began quilting as a hobby when she quit working to stay home with her children. She wanted something quilted for her front door so she designed a Christmas banner, then an Easter banner. Friends who saw the banners wanted the patterns so Bee Creek Quilting Company was born. Kandi and her husband live in Omaha. In the past, Kandi has done trunk show and taught at both Brookings and Sioux Falls.

Pat and her husband Elmer moved to Sioux Falls from Grand Rapids, MN in 2005. Pat is retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad after working there for 28 years. Pat quilted as a teenager and started making miniature quilts in 2002. Pat has been known to do a whole trunk show out of a medium sized Rubbermaid tote-- In addition to quilting, Pat makes doll houses, complete with miniature furniture, quilts, and rugs; she collects dolls and belongs to a doll club in Sioux Falls; and she is a voracious reader, belonging to two book clubs that meet monthly.

Saturday: All Day - All skill levels

  • Pinking Shears-Fiskars are best, lightweight & sharp (not the old ones your mother had)

  • Pencil
  • 12” x 1” Ruler you can see through
  • Paper & Fabric Scissors
  • Sewing Machine (if machine appliqué)
  • Hand Needles & Thread (if hand appliqué)
  • Small Travel Iron without a rolled edge (NOT the Cover Wand Iron)

  • Fat Quarter for borders or more of your small print
  • ½ yd. fabric for background & backing
  • 18 inch square of batting

Class #3 Pineapple Delight Project
  Class #4 – Banner Class
Teacher: Linda Louder Teacher: Kandi Paige Gallup

Linda has been sewing since she was 10 years old. That includes drapery, upholstery, and garments of every kind. She has been quilting for 23 years and is co-owner of Ivy Lane Quilts in Elkton, SD; a shop celebrating 12 years in business this fall. Linda’s perfect day begins and ends at her sewing machine with a half-hour of reading prior to “lights out.”

Saturday: All Day - All skill levels

Sunday: 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM

You will make four 12-inch blocks that can be joined together to make a wall quilt or table topper. Or, those four can be the beginning of a quilt, the size of your choosing. You are required to have a “Pineapple Ruler” by Possibilities. The book is not required, but is recommended because of the many options that it offers. Several samples will on display during the class. “Mocha Latte” on pages 28-29 in the book will be the guide for our project. It uses a 4 x 5 set and we will be making a 2 x 2 set that with borders will measure 36 inches. If this is your first pineapple project I recommend that you use only 3 fabrics. But you must make sure that there are a light (background), medium ( a focus fabric), and a dark ( a contrast to everything).

There will be pre-cutting prior to this class. But it is easy cutting!! This information will be sent to you upon registration and confirmation of the class.

There are 18 different banners, measuring 27” x 37”, you can chose from – only two are pictured – and you can see the other 16 on: www.beecreekquiltingcompany.com listed under wall hangings. There are banners for every holiday and event available to pick from. The patterns are $18 each and can be purchased from Kandi the day of the class. Fabric Kits are also available from Kandi containing enough fabric for 4 banners or 4 people to share. If you want to use your own fabric, the fabric requirements will be sent to you after you have selected the banner you want to make. Please write the name of the banner on your registration form when you send it in.

Project supplies:
  • ¾ yd. Light Fabric ( includes 2nd border)
  • 1 yd. Medium Fabric ( includes outer border)
  • 1 yd. Dark Fabric ( included 1st border and binding)
  • Pineapple Ruler & Book MUST be ordered if you are planning to make this project. Contact Linda at: ivylane@itctel.com
  • All regular sewing class supplies
  • *** Cutting information will be sent to you upon registration of this class.
